Let’s face it—the world of hot dogs isn’t exactly a glamorous one. So when a new hot dog innovation comes along, we’ll admit, we’re always intrigued, but not always optimistic.
Hot dogs have long been known as the mystery of the meat world—the one we’re told not to question too closely. These days, there are round hot dogs big enough for burger buns, hot and spicy-flavored franks, and even “notdogs.” And with the debut of stuffed dogs, filled with everything from chili cheese to jalapeño cheddar, things have only gotten, well, more and more suspicious.
But when it comes to what’s on the outside of a hot dog? That’s where we welcome creativity. Top one Colombian-style with pineapple sauce, salsa rosada, cheese, and crushed chips? Yes, please. Wrap it in puff pastry for a cheesy bake? Don’t mind if we do.
Thankfully, the newest hot dog creation doesn’t try to reinvent what’s on the inside—it’s all about what’s on the outside. And this time, the twist is one we can fully get behind.
New TotDogs Are Coming To Stores
Meet TotDogs, the new hot dog bite we can’t believe didn’t exist before.
This Midwestern-inspired snack wraps a mini chicken hot dog in a crunchy, potato-based shell. Think corn dog, but swap the sweet cornmeal for golden tater tots—and shrink it down to the perfect bite-sized snack.
“My family and I recently tried TotDogs and they were a hit, especially with my son,” one reviewer shared. “The Original flavor is very similar to a corn dog, but crispier and a little more savory. Less of the sweetness you get with a traditional corn dog, which I actually prefer.”
Other reviewers called the combo a “match made in heaven” and said they’re “so crisp and delicious” when cooked in the air fryer for just six to eight minutes. “The only downside—they disappear way too fast,” another wrote.
TotDogs come in two flavors—Original and Chili Cheese—both designed for dipping and packed with eight grams of protein per serving. It’s classic comfort food reimagined for modern snackers, and it’s available at major retailers, like Walmart and Target, now for $9.99.
“I’d buy these on sight if I saw them,” one Redditor admitted. Another added, “Once I polish off the OG, I’ll try the chili cheese!”
So while hot dog innovation has been known to go off the rails, this is one comfort food that feels just far enough outside of our comfort zone.
